California Senate Debates the Vision Act to Stop ICE Transfers of Immigrant Inmates.
Senator Richard Roth must stand with immigrants and stop the double punishment that continues to criminalize our communities.
Riverside, CA – In the next few days, the California Senate will vote on the Vision Act (AB 937), a bill by Assemblywoman Wendy Carrillo that would stop ICE from transferring and deporting immigrant inmates who have already paid their debt to society. For years, law enforcement has collaborated with ICE to target immigrants.
State Senators, such as Richard Roth (D. Riverside), will be voting on the Vision Act. They must stand with immigrants and stop the double punishment, created by the government, that continues to criminalize our immigrant community.
Ramon Valdez, a member of Resilient Voices noted,
“As a constituent of Senator Roth, I am appalled by his neutrality on this issue. I am a victim of the collaboration of law enforcement and ICE. The transfer resulted in detention for 7 years at a private, for-profit detention center, where I suffered countless acts of repression, harassment, and torture by ICE employees. No human being should have to go through that suffering.”
