Adelanto Residents file an appeal to GEO’s attempt to expand Detention Facility
Adelanto, CA – On Monday, Adelanto Residents alongside the Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice and the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California filed an appeal to the City of Adelanto to block GEO’s attempt to expand the detention facility.
The letter which was made in person, specifically requests “the Council deny the developer’s conditional use permit (CUP) 96-11 to annex the existing 750 Desert View Facility to house federal immigration detainees.” It goes on to detail egregious violations that occurred the night the Planning Commission voted to approve the permit.
Highlights violations in state laws – that surely leave the city open to lawsuits and continued legal action. Among other complaints by local residents and civil rights organizations.
This appeal comes at the heels of a number of controversies that involve local officials. Including collusion and likely corruption from City Manager Jessie Flores, the unlawful dismissal of the sole planning commissioner who voted against GEOs illicit tactics, and a systematic effort to shut down complaints from local residents.
