Sonia Roman

Sonia Roman was born in Durango, Mexico, and immigrated to the United States at the age of 10. She grew up in Pomona, California, where she was raised by immigrant parents who instilled in her the values of hard work, resilience, and compassion. Despite graduating from high school, Sonia faced significant challenges in pursuing higher education due to limited financial resources.

Her mother’s unwavering dedication to providing for the family deeply influenced Sonia’s perspective on life, teaching her to value every opportunity and to empathize with the struggles of others, particularly within the immigrant community.

In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sonia began volunteering with the Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice (IC4IJ), distributing the Justice Fund to immigrants who were excluded from federal stimulus relief. This experience sparked her commitment to serving the immigrant community. She later joined an organization assisting immigrants with their legal processes at no cost.

Currently, Sonia serves as the Legal Department Receptionist at IC4IJ, where she continues to work directly with the immigrant community. For Sonia, it is a privilege to collaborate with colleagues who share her passion and empathy for immigrant justice.

Sonia’s journey reflects the strength and resilience of immigrant families and underscores the importance of community support and advocacy in the face of adversity.
