ICIJ is hiring a High Desert Organizer!
The High Desert Organizer at ICIJ will lead the outreach and community engagement efforts for several campaigns and projects including the Shut Down Adelanto Campaign, The High Desert Community Resilience Center Project, and the Adelanto Water Justice Campaign. This role focuses on grassroots organizing to empower and mobilize community members around immigrant justice and environmental justice issues. The Organizer will engage stakeholders to raise awareness on the intersection between environmental justice, public health, and advocating for increased community involvement in decision-making on key issues areas for the High Desert region.
Responsibilities
Community Engagement and Outreach
- Organize and facilitate community meetings, workshops, and events to promote awareness and action on environmental justice
- Foster relationships with local residents, community groups, and governmental agencies to amplify community voices in environmental decision-making processes
- Conduct outreach efforts to increase community understanding of climate resilience
- Advocate for policies and practices that prioritize environmental justice and community participation in local governance
- Mobilize community members to participate in advocacy efforts at local, regional, and state levels
- Build the capacity of community members to become effective advocates for environmental justice through training and skill development initiatives
- Support community-driven initiatives aimed at enhancing resilience to environmental challenges in the Adelanto area
- Represent the organization at community events, meetings, and conferences to enhance visibility and build partnerships
- Participate in coalitions or collaborative efforts related to outreach and community engagement
Administrative Support and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, contacts, and communications
- Handle logistical arrangements for outreach events, including venue booking, equipment rental, and catering
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures, as well as grant deliverables in relation to outreach and community engagement
- With the help of the Lead Organizer, prepare reports on outreach activities for funding organizations, stakeholders, and senior management
Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned to meet organizational needs.
Required Qualifications
- 1 year of experience in campaign organizing, and/or organizing frontline communities
- Understanding of environmental issues (preferred)
- Knowledge of the High Desert area political environment and history
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with community members, partners, and stakeholders
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice, equity, and empowering marginalized communities
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a dynamic environment
- Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and access to reliable transportation
- Fluency in Spanish or other relevant languages is preferred
Benefits:
Eligible full-time employees shall accrue annual leave in proportion to regular hours worked. 6 mental health days every year.

ICIJ is hiring a part-time canvasser! This is a temporary position that will go from the end of August to the beginning of October.
The Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice is seeking to hire 10 self-driven, passionate canvassers for our 2024 Get Out The Vote campaign. These canvassers will be based in the High Desert, Riverside, and San Bernardino areas.
Our 2024 GOTV campaign is centered around making democracy available to all, encouraging
citizens to vote in the upcoming general election and connecting them to all available forms of
voting. Canvassers will engage in door-to-door knocking and phone banking. These positions begin September 13th and will run until November 5th for the general election. Primary Duties include:
● Directly engaging with residents of the High Desert, Riverside, and San Bernardino areas. Engagement will be through dialogue that informs voters of the upcoming general
election, encourages them to vote, and assists them in developing a plan to vote.
● Staying informed on the available forms of voting, the local offices up for election, and
the advocacy work of the IC4IJ as it relates to residents.
● Displaying professionalism, with an emphasis on punctuality and reliability. This is a part time
position that requires reliable transportation.
● Other tasks as needed to support the team.
Desired Experience/Qualifications:
● Local to the High Desert, Riverside, and San Bernardino areas.
● Experiences using Amplify, and/or experience canvassing in past GOTV effort
● Excellent organizational skills and the ability to accomplish short and long term goals
● Ability to speak, read, or write in Spanish is preferred
