Los Angeles, CA – On June 14th, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that Texas had sent off the 1st bus with more than 40 immigrants to Los Angeles–who arrived yesterday. Abbott expressed that the decision to declare Los Angeles a sanctuary city is what made him pick Los Angeles as the drop off location.
The state of Texas has the resources to invest in programs to welcome refugees and asylum seekers. Instead, Governor Abbott is using taxpayer dollars, some of which come from immigrants, to target vulnerable communities for political showmanship.
The Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice denounces this hateful decision. It stands with immigrants, who continue to show that they are the backbone of this country. We welcome immigrants and we will treat them with compassion. As a coalition composed of over 35 organizations, we will continue to work with our members to lead and strengthen our resources for all immigrants.
